More on "what do you do?"
My weekend was filled with happy chaos. I watched my college basketball team make it to the Final 4. I hung out with old friends and some new ones. I drank too much and smoked too much, and I am paying for it today. Actually my body was hurting yesterday but I plowed on like a trooper. I think I'm in partying mode because of spring. Yes, it's a seasonal thing.
While chatting with some new friends, one of them asked me, "so what do you do for a living?"
I had been chatting with them for a few minutes, and they seemed open minded. So I told them the truth. Then one of the guys said, "that's interesting because I used to work for the sex industry."
Me: Really? What did you do if you don't mind me asking?
Him: Not at all. I was a phone sex operator for about six months.
Then we got into a long conversation about the adult industry. About being pigeonholed into certain labels. About finding like-minded people who won't judge you based on how you make money. It was a great conversation, and I'm glad that I started it by telling him what I do for a living. Sometimes you don't have to keep secrets from people.
